Kristin Lamar, Attorney and Co-Founder of New Chapter Law Group

Kristin, a native of San Diego, was born and raised in Mira Mesa. Kristin first left San Diego to attend the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History. Immediately after earning her Bachelor’s degree Kristin returned home to San Diego… but not for long.

From an early age, Kristin knew she wanted to be an attorney so she could help protect the rights of those typically overlooked and under protected by society. Kristin was accepted to study law at Brooklyn Law School in New York, so Kristin and three friends packed their belongings in a moving truck and headed east. Before starting law school, Kristin spent two years in New York working in the field of corporate bankruptcy, specializing in Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Given her interest in bankruptcy, Kristin continued her work in corporate bankruptcy throughout law school.

After graduating from Brooklyn Law School, Kristin was offered a job with a prestigious Park Avenue bankruptcy law firm. While Kristin enjoyed the field of corporate bankruptcy, Kristin began to feel disconnected from those who she originally wanted to help, the consumer (ie. individuals and families). Kristin returned home to San Diego in 2008 and began helping individuals and families seeking the fresh start and relief from their debts. Since returning to San Diego, Kristin has filed over 1000 consumer bankruptcy cases, including both Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy cases. Kristin’s straight forward/no-nonsense demeanor and her tenacity and willingness to fight for the rights of her clients has not only made Kristin well known but also highly respected by both the local Bankruptcy Judges and Trustees. Kristin is currently admitted to practice law in both California and New York. Kristin is also admitted to practice before the United States District Courts in California’s Southern and Central Districts, New York’s Southern and Eastern Districts, and the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.
