Debt Resolution Explained
Because everyone has unique goals and circumstances, we know bankruptcy isn’t always the best option. For some, legal requirements or statutory limits may prevent bankruptcy from being an available option. For others, personal concerns or the negative stigma often (and unfairly) associated with bankruptcy lead them to explore other solutions. Fortunately, there are also non‑bankruptcy debt resolution methods available, such as Debt Consolidation and Debt Settlement. Both can be useful ways to reduce, restructure, or eliminate debt while easing the stress and harassment caused by debt collectors.
Debt Resolution versus Bankruptcy
On the surface, Debt Consolidation and Debt Settlement may look similar to bankruptcy because they often involve reduction, negotiation or modified repayment of debts owed to creditors, with the ultimate goal of eliminating certain debts. However, there are important differences between these methods and bankruptcy, including:
- No legal framework: Unlike bankruptcy, non-bankruptcy debt relief options are not governed by a formal system of laws.
- Voluntary participation: Outside of bankruptcy, creditors are free to accept or refuse participation. This means some debts may be resolved while other debts remain.
- Less certainty: Because bankruptcy requires creditors to comply with Court orders, it provides binding legal relief. Non-bankruptcy debt relief options, by contrast, offer less assurance of reaching a complete debt resolution.
While non‑bankruptcy alternatives can offer some relief, their ability to provide lasting or complete debt resolution is often limited and less certain. Whether these options are the right fit for you depends on your overall financial situation, your creditors’ willingness to cooperate, and your long‑term financial goals. At New Chapter Law Group, we can review your circumstances, explain each option clearly, and help you determine whether a non‑bankruptcy solution—or bankruptcy itself—is your best path forward.

Thank you so much for handling my case. I think I’ve taken the first real breath of relief in a long time. You promised me that you would take care of me and make it as easy as possible for me to begin this new “chapter” of my life and you fulfilled that promise. Throughout the process I felt that you were on my side, watching over my case and making sure that I was comfortable. You took the fear/shame/guilt from me and now I can move forward with tools to keep things in order.- Leandro S. (2018)

Dear Nik & Kristin… Your aid throughout the entire process was truly comprehensive and admirable. The flowchart, forms, checklists, worksheets and timely minders for me to act were all on point and deeply appreciated. I found your fees to be very reasonable both in total and payment terms. Honestly, I was expecting higher fees for your services, which would be richly deserved, in my opinion, but am pleased with the actual amounts. Again, thank you both very much for your awesome and professional services. It would be a pleasure for me to recommend you to others in need of similar services at any time.- Rick M (2024)
